Andy will be playing two initimate gigs at Broadstairs Folk Week on Saturday Aug 12th. He will be performing on guitar and stage piano at:

Balmoral Bar, Albion St 1pm-2pm
Peens, Victoria Parade 8pm-10.30pm

Had a great day out on Sunday playing at the inaugral Suffolk Folk Festival in Woodbridge. A stunning setting in Elmhurst park - a view of church spires and yacht masts! A lovely stage and sound system. Wonderfully hosted by Paul Salamon with a great compere in John Bosley. Also loved the other acts Kundalini Drive and the Shanty crew. Andy recently entered a folk factor competition organised by Rochester Sweeps Festival. Though he didn't win judges Simon Evans (radio kent), Jo Tuffs (Broadstairs festival) and Joe Steed said :

Andy's next local gig is on Febuary 24th 8.30pm at Orpington Friday Folk at Orpington Liberal Club. Andy will be performing much of his set on his wonderful new stage piano! Great sound! This is a must see gig.

Andy Smythe was introduced by Margaret as a Fab Club virgin. Are there really any virgins in Lewisham? He sang us two of his own songs. The first he accompanied on his guitar with an accomplished strumming style. Called “Coogee Bay” it recalled his time in Australia and was a song about his girl, who ran off with …. an accountant. Her loss! Well, he deserves to be treated better by the girls of Kent and Essex, who should appreciate his accomplished singing and playing. He accompanied his next on the keyboard, which was a deeply moving song called “Brothers” about a friend who died in a surfing accident in Cornwall. Lovely accompaniment and great song. After the break, Andy did another song accompanied on the keyboard called “The Garden of Sweet England”. Beautiful. I have a feeling we will be hearing more from Andy at the club. I do hope so. In the meantime, he is supporting Pete Coe at Dartford on 31st January.

My recent album is receiving some lovely reviews. Here's another from the great folk/roots site 'Rambles':

The award for the most wittily titled album of 2005 must go to Last Throes of Summer by Andy Smythe.
The compositions come straight from the singer and are all the better for this. Smythe has an ear for words and a knack for writing well about the ordinary things of life.
"Our Gang" is an excellent example of this as he paints a recent picture of childhood in England. No doubt all childhood memories will be kindled by the lyrics of stone throwing and fighting with friends.
A favourite song for me is "Let's Fall in Love Again," a gentle, quiet and thoughtful piece. The universality of the American Indian experience is evident as this English singer tells their sad tale on "No Heroes."
Another "could be" classic is the wonderful "Maid of the Loch." Given enough exposure, this could become a standard. "Brothers" is a story-song telling a sad tale of loss. The marriage of lyrics and the simple melody is electric in telling the tale.
The album ends with the title track. Here Smythe brings us into the pastoral English countryside and describes a satisfied life to perfection.
Andy Smythe is a name to watch and a singer to listen to. The album is available through his website, where you can preview some tracks before purchasing.
